Update: Kris in Rwanda

Kris and Katy have made it safe and sound to Rwanda. Here are a few tweets from Kris about the trip so far:

We have learned on Twitter [thanks to the ninja skills of one @tawneej] that Kris will help teach an ESL class while he is over there. No updates as of yet about this, but keep checking this space, as well as this blog for more details later. Here is what the Anna in Africa blog has revealed about Kris so far:

Kris Allen and the TOMS shoes group arrive in Musanze tonight and the week officially begins! We have a busy week including several shoe drops, filming video footage all over Rwanda, lots of group dinners, and even Kris coming to help me teach a class at Sonrise! I will give more details aobut the week later….”

Bridge 2 Rwanda is the organization that Kris has partnered with on this trip (along with TOMS Shoes). One of their projects is the Sonrise School, which was established after the genocide to cater to the thousands of orphaned children. Sonrise is one of the leading schools in the country and Kris will reportedly be helping out at the school. For more information on Sonrise, click here.

**Kris and Katy go hiking in Rwanda and stumble upon these cuddly guys!

A blogger who is in Rwanda also met up with Kris and Katy and had this to say about them on his blog (thank you @aumarge):

“After talking with the TOMS folks for a good while, Kris Allen and his wife showed up (I’m actually typing this post while Kris is sitting right next to me) and we’ve been hanging out with them all night.  They’ve been gracious enough to answer all of our questions about their life now and are just extremely down to earth folks.”

Another update from someone who is also in Rwanda with TOMS Shoes and Bridge 2 Rwanda; he tweeted that he went on a trek with Kris and Katy:

Bridge 2 Rwanda posted about Kris’s visit on their blog [thanks @snapcracklypop]:

**Just in: Bridge 2 Rwanda has posted pictures from today’s shoe-drop and Kris and Katy are in some of them. Here are a few pics:

A tweet from Kris!

TOMS had this to say about Kris’s participation with the One for One campaign:

“Early this year, we connected with a young fellow named Kris Allen – you may have seen him win that kinda popular show American Idol? Not only was he pumped about the One for One mission (and an owner of several pairs of TOMS), he wanted to bring Bridge2Rwanda and TOMS together.”
